One book, two book
Thick book, thin book
Books here, books there,
Books, in fact, are everywhere.
They come in paper,
they come in phones,
they come in form
Of Game of Thrones.
Harry Potter,
A magical one,
Narnia,
An allegorical one.
Ranger’s Apprentice, THE best one,
Save for maybe the series that won.
It comes as if sent from Zion
it is in fact, Mark of the Lion.
This series changed me,
and made me strong;
it is one of those books
that won’t steer you wrong.

But I think that the best book
that was ever made,
Is one called the Bible,
It won’t ever fade.
It tells us true stories
of kings and of queens,
and also salvation
that you have never seen.

So it’s true that books,
although wordy and thick,
are just so good,
I don’t know which to pick.
I live off of books,
the characters and plots;
I might eventually go
To Flourish and Blotts.
My incessant screaming,
My shippings, my pairings,
They give me weird looks,
While I am fangirling.

I must say my favourite
Pairing of all time,
Is Percy and Annabeth,
Does time have a rhyme?
My favourite characters,
who are naught but brothers,
are the Hardy Boy brothers.
(Their books have blue covers).
I also enjoy,
With all due respect,
Books about dragons,
they aren’t a sect.
Raising Dragons is one,
But there are a few more,
Eragon, and Eldest,
Aren’t there four?
Brisingr, Inheritance,
They all look the same,
But if you look deep inside,
It’s not just a name.

These books are about people,
Real, fake or otherwise,
But what they do,
they do before your very eyes.
They change you, make you,
and sometimes destroy,
but at least you’re not
the people of Troy.

To describe my favourite
Book on my shelf,
is hard to do
It’s a feat in itself.
But I’ll give it a shot
Or maybe two,
so hold onto your shorts,
I’m doing this for you.

It’s a book set in the past,
Very far back.
About a girl named Hadassah,
Faith, she doesn't lack.
The fall of Jerusalem
has just taken place
And Hadassah’s a slave
not lacking in grace.
She is taken to Rome
where she is sold to a family
but her faith in Christ
makes her an abnormality.
The son of the house
falls in love with her,
but his sister is jealous,
she is Hadassah’s master.

Needless to say,
Hadassah’s in danger,
and lot’s else happens,
Savagery is no stranger.
Hadassah’s story
is not the only one.
There’s a man Germania,
and is sent to fight
for the emperor Vespasian
in all of his might.
Atretes is a gladiator
who wants to go home,
and he meets many people
while staying in Rome.
He makes friends with Julia,
She’s Hadassah’s master,
they are more than just friends
she leads him to disaster.

When all’s said and done
by the end of the first book,
you’re in tears and a mess
you can’t take another look.
Books two and three
make the story better,
but you get so angry
you just want to take shelter.
From the dramatic irony
to the unfaithful follower
the book is a good combo
of angst and of order.
I would recommend this book
to those who aren’t square
and love to read about faith,
and his power of prayer.

It flows really well, and the rhymes were clever. You're clearly passionate about books! I'm interested in seeing you take more risks in the future
ReplyDeleteNadine, I thought your poems about books were really entertaining. I definitely can relate to a love of books. Your first poem flowed nicely, but I would try improving the flow of the second one a tad!
ReplyDeleteYour poems had a Dr Seuss like quality in the way they flowed. It was really nice to hear! You did a great job.

ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the sentence fluidity and rhyming your piece a lot, it was well structured. When you read it out loud in class it had a few rough patched so maybe just quickly read it out loud first next time. But over all it was really good.
ReplyDeleteI love how you slipped in a Dr. Seuss reference at the beginning! Very well-rhymed, and fluid. I was extremely impressed at how many words you could find that rhymed... Kudos to you!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the fact that you were able to rhyme without making the poems sound childish. I loved how you were able to summarize your favorite book in a poetic form. I would like to see you take a more risky route next time. The rhymes were amusing but taking it further creativity wise will make the final product more powerful. Great job!
ReplyDeleteI love that you picked something that is not normally written about. I would just make sure to read it aloud to your family or someone else to make sure that everything makes sense and flows well. Good job
ReplyDeleteThe rhyming was really well done and the topic was good because it was something everyone can relate to. Can't wait to hear some more of your work!
ReplyDeleteThe rhymes flowed very well, and I admire how you found so many words along the subject of book to fit in the poem, while maintaining the flow. Maybe next time try putting the two pieces together through a transition i.e, moving from the first topic and then find a transition sentence to push the two very close topics into one. Great job Nadine!
ReplyDeleteI agree the rhymes were very fun and clever. Though the two poems still revolved around the central idea of books, I agree with Emily in the fact that they could of correlated more to add further meaning to the poems. Plenty of wonderful phrases that stood independently within each piece and helped the overall effectiveness. Great work!
ReplyDeleteThe rhymes as Clare said were spot on. Some parts of the poems meaning seemed to falter from the main topic of books, but the piece as a whole was strong none the less. Keep up the good work.
